Summer is here! Hampton Tropicalia and SCOPEHamptons 08

The season is definitely upon us and there are a lot of options for things to do and see in the area now!

All Junior Circle Members will receive VIP passes for SCOPEHamptons to be held for its fourth consecutive year from July 24th-27th (77 Industrial Road, Wainscott, NY 11975).  The VIP pass allows you to attend the fair at all regular hours (Friday/Saturday, July 25th and 26th, 12-8 pm, Sunday, July 27th, 12-6 pm), and includes FirstView, the opening night to be held on Thursday, July 24th, 5-8 pm, and other special activities. If you have not received your pass, please notify Genevieve at Guild Hall, 631.324.0806. For further details on the show and a schedule of events visit www.scope-art.com.

Also on the calendar for this same July weekend is Hampton Tropicalia, a special cocktail and dinner party hosted by fellow members, Santiago Garza and Esperanza Leon, especially for our membership and other special guests. It is to be held on Saturday, July 26th, at 6:30 pm, in the Village of East Hampton. There will be cocktails, a performance, an art exhibition (www.artsolar.com), and dinner. You can confirm with Esperanza (info@artsolar.com) for cocktails or dinner, or both!  If you have any questions or for directions call 631.907.8422.

Finally, don't forget to save the date on your calendar for Guild Hall's yearly Summer Gala on August 8th, held in conjunction with the fabulous new exhibition, Larry Rivers: Major Early Works (August 9-October 19, 2008).  There will be a Cocktail Preview at Guild Hall beginning at 6 pm.  The party continues nearby at Mulford Farm with Cocktails and Jazz by the Larry Rivers Climax Band, beginning at 7 pm, followed by Dinner, a Live Auction, and more live music with Peter Duchin and his Orchestra, starting at 8 pm.

Keep in mind that the Junior Circle is again hosting the Members Preview of the Larry Rivers exhibition, which will open to the public at Guild Hall on Saturday, August 9th, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.

There are many more exciting and interesting events taking place throughout the rest of the summer.  More information can be found on www.guildhall.org.

NEW YEAR, NEW PROGRAMS

Greetings in the New Year!  At the moment, we are planning a winter and spring schedule with several programs in the works waiting to be confirmed. Among them are a February tour of the New Museum (www.newmuseum.org)and a March trip to the dynamic, uptown museum, El Museo del Barrio (www.elmuseo.org) followed by a JC cocktail gathering at a Manhattan location. And, of course, the major event of the season to look forward to is the Annual Academy of the Arts Awards Gala on Monday, March 3rd. This year’s honorees are: David Salle for Visual Arts, Mel Brooks for Performing Arts, and Joe Pintauro for Literary Arts, and the event will take place once again at NYC’s fabled Rainbow Room. For Young Patrons tickets and further details, call 631.324.0806.

At this time of year we are varying the destinations of our events with the knowledge that a number of our members reside for the most part in New York City. But please do not forget that Guild Hall continues its main programming in East Hampton throughout the year, so keep abreast of what is on the calendar by visiting the website www.guildhall.org.  We can look forward especially to the annual Members' Show, in its 70th year, taking place from 29 March to 26 April (Part I, Artists' last names M-Z).

Please know that some of our programs and events may incur additional costs due to the fact that museums and nonprofit institutions no longer are able to waive guard and administrative fees as they once did. The tours our members expect, scheduled during non-public hours, are no longer free. However, we are mindful that our members have already paid a membership fee, so we will try to keep the additional fees reasonable.

I encourage you to visit Guild Hall in the next few months so you can be a witness to the dramatic changes taking place in the theater and in all the phases of the building’s renovation. Perhaps we can plan a hard-hat tour of the John Drew and new installations in the next couple of months for our members.  Check out the progress on the Renovation online, www.guildhall.org/renovation.ihtml.

This is an exciting time in the history of the organization, and your membership is a key, contributing factor to the success of the Capital Campaign. Encourage friends and colleagues to become members and be a part of building a new and dynamic group at Guild Hall, as well as rebuilding a new and improved Guild Hall.
